The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 11:08 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Serge Cardin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Peter Julian, Pierre Lemieux, John Maloney, Ted Menzies and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: David Anderson for Leon Benoit and Christian Ouellet for Guy André.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Elizabeth Kuruvila, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Paul Bears, Trade Commissioner, Middle East and North Africa; Sue Butchart, Desk Officer, Gulf and Maghreb Division, Yemen, Bahrain and Oman. Export Development Canada: Jean-François Croft, Regional Manager, International Business, Development Group, Africa, Europe and Middle East. Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Michael Hope-Simpson, Senior Learning Specialist, Centre for Intercultural Learning; Giles Norman, Deputy Director, Gulf and Maghreb; Carmen Sylvain, Director General, Bilateral Commercial Relations (Europe, Africa and the Middle East).

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the Canada's Trade Policy - Briefing on Middle East Trip.
 

Carmen Sylvain, Giles Norman, Michael Hope-Simpson, Sue Butchart and Jean-François Croft made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee approve working lunches for the Middle East and South East Asia trip.

 

At 12:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
