The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 9:13 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Leon Benoit, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Hon. Mark Eyking, Peter Julian, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, John Maloney, Ted Menzies and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Ken Epp for Helena Guergis, Brian Fitzpatrick for Ted Menzies and John Williams for Pierre Lemieux.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Analyst; Michael Holden, Analyst; Elizabeth Kuruvila, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Conference Board of Canada: Glen Hodgson, Vice-President and Chief Economist. Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Michael Murphy, Executive Vice-President, Policy. Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, National office. C.D. Howe Institute: Ben Tomlin, Fellow.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Canada's Trade Policy.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee host a working lunch for the participants of the Round Table.

 

The Committee and participants proceeded to a round table discussion.

 

At 11:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:44 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee commence hearings on Bill C-24, Softwood Lumber, on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; and

That the Committee first hear from the Departmental Officials; and

That the Committee hear from further witnesses on Thursday, October 26, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; and

That the Clause by Clause commence on Tuesday, October 31, 2006.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the Canada's Trade Policy.
 

At 12:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
