The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Anderson, Alex Atamanenko, Ken Boshcoff, Barry Devolin, Hon. Wayne Easter, Roger Gaudet, Jacques Gourde, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Larry Miller and Paul Steckle.

 

Acting Members present: Marcel Lussier for André Bellavance and Ted Menzies for James Bezan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

David Anderson moved, — That the Committee invert the order of items of the agenda.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 5.

 

Alex Atamanenko moved, — That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food write a letter to the Honourable Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada, indicating the Committee’s support for the National Farmers Union’s (NFU) April 19th, 2007 submission to the Honourable Shiela Fraser calling for an investigation into the government’s conduct and spending by the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food throughout the recent Canadian Wheat Board barley marketing plebiscite.

Debate arose thereon.

 

On motion of Ted Menzies, it was agreed on division, — That the Committee adjourn until 3:30 on next Tuesday, June 5, 2007.

 

At 4:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
