EVIDENCE

[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]

  (1110)

[English]

Good morning, honourable members of the committee. I see a quorum. We can now proceed to the election of the chair.

[Translation]

I am now ready to receive motions for the election of the chair.
    Mr. Atamanenko, over to you.

[English]

I'd like to nominate Gerry Ritz.

[Translation]

It is moved by Mr. Atamanenko that Mr. Ritz be elected as chair of this committee.
    Are there any other motions?
As there are no other nominations for the position of chair of this committee, is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion carried)

[English]

I declare Mr. Ritz the duly elected chair of the committee.
    Congratulations.

[Translation]

Before inviting Mr. Ritz to take the chair, we will elect the vice-chairs.
I am now ready to receive nominations for the position of first vice-chair; that person must be a member of the official opposition.

[English]

    I nominate Paul Steckle.

[Translation]

It is moved by Mr. Easter that Mr. Steckle be elected as the first vice-chair of this committee.

[English]

    Are there any further motions?
I don't have any further motions, but I wonder about procedure. On the first motion, do we not need a motion that nominations be closed?
    No, we did not.
    Okay, that answers it.
Mr. Miller, for the proceedings, if there are no more motions.... I asked whether there were any other motions, and there were none.
    No, I'm fine. Thank you.

[Translation]

Returning to Mr. Easter's motion, it is moved by Mr. Easter that Mr. Steckle be elected as the first vice-chair of this committee.

[English]

    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)
I declare Mr. Steckle the duly elected first vice-chair of the committee. Congratulations.
We will now proceed to the election of the second vice-chair, the vice-chair from the opposition parties other than the official opposition.

[Translation]

I am now ready to receive nominations for the position of second vice-chair.
I move that Mr. André Bellavance be nominated.
It is moved by Mr. Roy that Mr. Bellavance be elected as the second vice-chair of this committee.

[English]

    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    (Motion agreed to)

[Translation]

The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Bellavance duly elected as the second vice-chair of this committee.
    Congratulations.

[English]

I would now like to invite Mr. Ritz to take the chair, please.
Thank you, gentlemen, for that vote of confidence.
We'll continue. Procedure now calls for us to adjourn this particular meeting; it has to be a stand-alone situation. I have to remove the gallery at this point too, as we go in camera to discuss our calendar, so that we can actually have you folks back in a few minutes.
Would you just clear the room for this short period?
    Thank you.
    This meeting stands adjourned.
