The Subcommittee on Solicitation Laws of the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness met at 8:00 a.m. this day, in the Empire Ballroom, The Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, Edmonton, Alberta, the Chair, John Maloney, presiding.

 

Members of the Subcommittee present: Paule Brunelle, Libby Davies, Art Hanger and John Maloney.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Laura Barnett, Analyst; Lyne Casavant, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Alberta Avenue Neighbourhood Patrol: Cristina Basualdo, Vice President. City of Calgary: Joe Ceci, Alderman, Calgary City Council. Calgary Police Service: Leonard Dafoe, Detective. Edmonton's Safer Cities Initiative: Kate Gunn, Safer Cities Initiative Coordinator; Kate Quinn, Member, Edmonton's Safer Cities Advisory Committee. Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Standing Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness on November 24, 2004, the Subcommittee resumed its study of Solicitation Laws.
 

Michael Phair, Janice Melnychuk, Joe Ceci, Kate Gunn, Kate Quinn, Jim Morrissey and Leonard Dafoe made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:56 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Peter Rausch, Elizabeth Hudson, Shannon Ross Watson, Julie McNeice, Cristina Basualdo, Hermina Dykxhoorne and Madelyn McDonald made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:26 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Peter Goldring, Pieter de Vos, Shelly Sevenson, Victoria Hemming, Shawna Hohendorff and Carol-Lynn Strachan made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:26 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
