The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Mark Holland, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Walt Lastewka, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Benoît Sauvageau, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Françoise Boivin for Gary Carr and Bernard Cleary for Sébastien Gagnon.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Analyst; Marc-André Pigeon, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Andy Scott, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Paul LeBlanc, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister, Regional Operations Support and Services; Line Paré, Director General, Education Branch. Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; André Côté, Director.

 

Daryl Kramp moved, — That, notwithstanding the motion contained in the Tenth Report of the Steering Committee inviting Frank Schiller and Warren Kinsella to appear before the Committee, that this Committee consider the matter closed and call no witnesses.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 5, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada - Education Program and Post-Secondary Student Support of the November 2004 Report of the Auditor General of Canada referred to the Committee on Thursday, November 23, 2004.
 

The Minister and the Auditor General made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
