The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, the Chair, Leon E. Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Leon E. Benoit, Ken Boshcoff, Diane Marleau, Pat Martin, Russ Powers, Joe Preston, Francis Scarpaleggia, Paul Szabo, Louise Thibault and Randy White.

 

Acting Members present: Pierre A. Paquette for Marcel Gagnon and Benoît Sauvageau for Marcel Gagnon.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jack Stilborn, Analyst; Philippe Le Goff, Analyst; Tara Gray, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Marlene Catterall, Ottawa West—Nepean; John Williams, Edmonton—St. Albert; Paul Szabo, Mississauga South. Cedric E. Ritchie, Director, Canada Post Board of Directors and Chair of the Governance and Nominating Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 21, 2004, the Committee commenced its consideration of the estimates process.
 

Marlene Caterall, John Williams and Paul Szabo made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:10 p.m., the sitting resumed in a televised session.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, the Committee resumed consideration of the Order in Council appointment of Gordon Feeney to the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Canada Post Corporation which was referred to the Committee on October 13, 2004.
 

Cedric Ritchie made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
