The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Bill Blaikie, Betty Hinton, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Pat O'Brien, Gordon O'Connor, Gilles-A. Perron and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. David A. Anderson for Hon. Keith Martin and Cheryl Gallant for Rick Casson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As Individuals: LGen Robert N. Fischer; Pierre L. Lagueux.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 18, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of the acquisition of submarines by the Canadian Forces.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:09 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded in camera to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Auditor General and officials from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada be invited to appear Wednesday, December 1, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk be instructed to invite a panel of academic witnesses to appear in relation to the study on the acquisition of submarines on Monday, December 6, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold a Committee Business meeting Wednesday December 8, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That Mr. David Collenette be invited to appear in relation to the study on the acquisition of submarines on Monday, December 13, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write a letter to the Chief of the Defence Staff requesting detailed information concerning the issues surrounding the badges of chaplains in the Canadian Forces.

 

At 5:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
