The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 362 East Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(2).

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Larry Bagnell, Hon. Bill Blaikie, John Cannis, Rick Casson, Odina Desrochers, Betty Hinton, Hon. Judi Longfield, Dave MacKenzie, Hon. Keith Martin, Gordon O'Connor and Anthony Rota.

 

Acting Members present: Cheryl Gallant for Gordon O'Connor.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner, Analyst; Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an Individual: Yves Côté.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Anthony Rota, it was agreed, — That Mr. Cannis be elected Chair of the Committee.

 
Pursuant to Standing Orders 110 and 111, the Committee commenced consideration of the certificate of nomination of Yves Côté to the position of Ombudsman which was referred to the Committee on May 30, 2005.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 9:59 a.m. Mr. Casson took the Chair.

 

At 10:12 a.m. Mr. Cannis took the Chair.

 

At 10:22 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:29 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee postpone all domestic travel planned for the summer and confirm plans to travel to the United States in July.

 

At 10:54 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
