The Standing Committee on Official Languages met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Françoise Boivin, Paule Brunelle, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Marc Godbout, Yvon Godin, Gary Goodyear, Guy Lauzon, Pierre Poilievre, Pablo Rodriguez, Hon. Raymond Simard and Maurice Vellacott.

 

Acting Members present: Maka Kotto for Guy Côté.

 

Associate Members present: Hon. Don Boudria.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: James Latimer, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Jean-Claude D'Amours, it was agreed, — That Pablo Rodriguez be elected Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Guy Lauzon, it was agreed, — That Pierre Poilievre be elected first Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Paule Brunelle, it was agreed, — That Yvon Godin be elected second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Pablo Rodriguez took the Chair.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Yvon Godin moved, — That the Committee meet Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 8:00 a.m., to begin the clause-by-clause study of Bill S-3, and that the meeting continue until the Committee has completed the clause-by-clause consideration.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

At 9:38 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
