The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 9:09 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Chair, Pablo Rodriguez, presiding.


Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Stéphane Bergeron, Françoise Boivin, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Marc Godbout, Yvon Godin, Guy Lauzon, Pablo Rodriguez, Andrew Scheer, Hon. Raymond Simard and Maurice Vellacott.


Acting Members present: Joe Preston for Guy Lauzon.


Associate Members present: Hon. Don Boudria.


In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst.


Appearing: Hon. Liza Frulla, Minister of Canadian Heritage.


Witnesses: Department of Canadian Heritage: Michel Francoeur, General Counsel and Director, Legal Services; Hubert Lussier, Director General, Official Languages Support Programs.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, April 13, 2005, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-3, An Act to amend the Official Languages Act (promotion of English and French).

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.


At 10:42 a.m., the sitting was suspended.


At 10:46 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the budget in the amount of $ 10,075 for a study on Bill S-3 starting May 10, 2005, be adopted.


At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
