The Standing Committee on Industry, Natural Resources, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 1:38 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Michael Chong, Hon. Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, John Duncan, Brian Masse, Hon. Jerry Pickard, Andy Savoy, Werner Schmidt, Brent St. Denis and Bradley R. Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Lynn Myers , Marc Boulianne for Serge Cardin and Hon. Dan McTeague for Lynn Myers .

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Finance: Serge Nadeau, General Director, Analysis, Tax Policy Branch; Geoff Trueman, Chief, Sales Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch. Department of Natural Resources: Howard E. Brown, Assistant Deputy Minister; Philip Jennings, Director General, Petroleum Resources Branch. Competition Bureau: Sheridan Scott, Commissioner of Competition; Richard Taylor, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Civil Matters Branch; Peter Sagar, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Competition Policy. MJ Ervin & Associates: Michael J. Ervin, President. Conference Board of Canada: Pedro Antunes, Director of National Forecast.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Fuel/Gasoline prices in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee resumed consideration of Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of John Duncan, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Finance Ralph Goodale, the Minister of Natural Resources John Efford, the Minister of Transportation Jean Lapierre and the Minister of Environment Stéphane Dion to appear before the Committee no later than September 29th to discuss how fuel prices are being addressed by their departments.

The debate continued.

 

By unanimous consent, on motion of John Duncan, it was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Minister of Finance Ralph Goodale, the Minister of Natural Resources John Efford, the Minister of Transportation Jean Lapierre, the Minister of Environment Stéphane Dion, and the Minister of Industry, David Emerson to appear before the Committee no later than October 6th to discuss how fuel prices are being addressed by their departments.

 

At 5:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
