The Standing Committee on Industry, Natural Resources, Science and Technology met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 269 West Block, the Chair, Brent St. Denis, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Serge Cardin, Michael Chong, Hon. Denis Coderre, Paul Crête, Brian Masse, Lynn Myers, Hon. Jerry Pickard, Andy Savoy, Werner Schmidt and Brent St. Denis.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Mills for Bradley R. Trost and James Rajotte for John Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Analyst; Andrew Kitching, Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Industry: Michael M. Binder, Assistant Deputy Minister, Spectrum, Information Technologies and Telecommunications; Larry Shaw, Director General, Telecommunications Policy Branch; Denise Walter, Senior Counsel, Legal Services; Steven Williamson, Senior Advisor, Regulatory Affairs.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, February 7, 2005, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-37, An Act to amend the Telecommunications Act.
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

The Chair called Clause 1.

 

Michael Binder made a statement and, with Larry Shaw and Steven Williamson, answered questions.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to consider the proposed amendments.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
