The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in camera at 3:25 p.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Raymonde Folco, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eleni Bakopanos, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Barry Devolin, Raymonde Folco, Paul Forseth, Christiane Gagnon, Ed Komarnicki, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Mario Silva and Peter Van Loan.

 

Acting Members present: Denis Paradis for Peter Adams and David Smith for Jean-Claude D'Amours.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kevin Kerr, Analyst; Chantal Collin, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Ken Dryden, Minister of Social Development.

 

Witnesses: Department of Social Development: Johanne MT Bélisle, Director General, Corporate Planning, Horizontal Initiatives and International Relations; Peter Hicks, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Strategic Direction, Assistant Deputy Minister's Office. Department of Justice: Julie Lalonde-Goldenberg, Team Leader and General Counsel, SDC/HRSDC Legal Services. Department of Social Development: Susan Scotti, Assistant Deputy Minister, Social Development Sectors.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of December 7, 2004, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-22, An Act to establish the Department of Social Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 4:53 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera to discuss its future business.

 

It was agreed, — That the budget in the amount of $ 6,849, be adopted to reimburse costs regarding the OECD Thematic Review of Early Childhood Education and Care Policy.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee sit in La Promenade Building on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:00 a.m..

 

It was agreed, — That February 8 and February 17, 2005, the Committee resume its study of the report of the Subcommittee on Employment Insurance Funds and that February 10 and February 15, 2005 be dedicated to the clause by clause study of Bill C-23, An Act to establish the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development and to amend and repeal certain related Acts.

 

At 5:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
