The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Raynald Blais, Rodger Cuzner, Loyola Hearn, Shawn Murphy, Scott Simms, Greg Thompson and Tom Wappel.

 

Acting Members present: Gérard Asselin for Jean-Yves Roy, Nathan Cullen for Peter Stoffer and Randy Kamp for Gerald Keddy.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst; Alan Nixon, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Jean-Claude Bouchard, Associate Deputy Minister; George Da Pont, Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Corporate Services; Cal Hegge, Director General, Director General, Finance and Administration.

 

At 11:07 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:08 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee’s order to travel of Thursday, November 4, 2004 be rescinded, and that 10 members of the Committee and the necessary staff travel to British Columbia from December 1 to 5, 2004 in relation to the Committee's study of the 2004 Fraser Valley sockeye salmon harvest.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed travel budget in the amount of $ 89,279, for the period of December 1 to 5, 2004 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Liaison Committee.

 

At 11:31 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:33 a.m., the Committee resumed sitting in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4) and Special Order made October 5, 2004, the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2004-2005: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under Fisheries and Oceans referred to the Committee on October 8, 2004.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2005: Votes 1a, 5a and 10a under Fisheries and Oceans referred to the Committee on Thursday, November 4, 2004.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
