The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:32 a.m. this day, in Room 536 Wellington Building, the Vice-Chair, Gerald Keddy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Raynald Blais, John Cummins, Loyola Hearn, Gerald Keddy, Bill Matthews, Shawn Murphy and Jean-Yves Roy.

 

Acting Members present: Charlie Angus for Peter Stoffer and Mark Eyking for Rodger Cuzner.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: John Adams, Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard; David Bevan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Fisheries and Aquaculture Management; Charles Gadula, Director General, Marine Programs Directorate; Yvette-Marie Kieran, Senior Counsel, Legal Services; Michel Vermette, Acting Director General, Program Planning and Coordination.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 21, 2004, the Committee commenced its study of the First Report of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans of the Third Session of the 37th Parliament.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 21, 2004, the Committee commenced its study of funding for the Canadian Responsible Fisheries Federation.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 21, 2004, the Committee commenced its study of potential legislative changes to the Canadian Coast Guard.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on October 21, 2004, the Committee commenced its study of the turbot quota of the Baffin Fisheries Coalition in the Davis Strait.
 

The witnesses answered questions.
