The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C Centre Block, the Acting Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Navdeep Bains, Marc Boulianne, Ed Broadbent, Ken Epp, Russ Hiebert, Marlene Jennings, Mario Laframboise, Derek Lee, Russ Powers, David Tilson and Paul Zed.

 

Acting Members present: Tom Lukiwski for David Chatters.

 

Associate Members present: Yvon Godin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Analyst; Nancy Holmes, Analyst. House of Commons: Jean-Philippe Brochu, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Ethics Commissioner: Bernard Shapiro, Ethics Commissioner; Robert F. Benson, Deputy Ethics Commissioner.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(h) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, the Committee commenced its study on the Report of the Ethics Commissioner on the Sgro Inquiry.
 

Bernard Shapiro made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 10:19 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:22 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Marlene Jennings moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera to discuss Committee business.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and the result of the vote was announced: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, the motion was agreed to.

 

At 10:27 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:30 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, if the House is still sitting, the Committee hold a public meeting on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. to consider the motion of Ed Broadbent concerning the Ethics Commissioner.

 

At 11:11 a.m., the Committee adjourned until 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2005.
