The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Colleen Beaumier, Meili Faille, Nina Grewal, Art Hanger, Rahim Jaffer, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

Acting Members present: Ken Boshcoff for Hon. Hedy Fry, Johanne Deschamps for Roger Clavet, Susan Kadis for Hon. Hedy Fry and Alan Tonks for Hon. David A. Anderson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Joseph Volpe, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Janice Charette, Deputy Minister; John McWhinnie, Assistant Deputy Minister, Centralized Service Delivery and Corporate Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2005-2006: Votes 1a, 5a and 10a under the DEPARTMENT OF CITIZENSHIP AND IMIGRATION CANADA referred to the Committee on Thursday, October 27, 2005.
 

Hon. Joseph Volpe made a statement and answered questions.

 

The question: "Shall Vote No. 1a under Citizenship and Immigration carry?" was put and was negatived on division.

 

The question: "Shall Vote No. 5a under Citizenship and Immigration carry? " was put and was negatived on division.

 

The question: "Shall Vote No. 10a under Citizenship and Immigration carry? " was put and was negatived on division.

 

ORDERED — That the Chair report Votes Nos. 1a, 5a and 10a under the DEPARTMENT ON CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION CANADA to the House as negatived.

 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
