The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Andrew Telegdi, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Hon. David A. Anderson, Roger Clavet, Meili Faille, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal, Rahim Jaffer, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 

The Chair presented the Fifth Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

It was agreed, - That the Chair be instructed to write to Minister Volpe on behalf of the Committee reiterating the Committee’s concern regarding the delay in tabling a new Citizenship Act in Parliament.

It was agreed, - That the motion of Lui Temelkovski which was stood on Tuesday, October 18, 2005, in regards to the Committee’s revised schedule be adopted.

That the decision taken by the Committee on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, with respect to the Committee’s upcoming meetings be rescinded and that the following schedule be adopted:

1. That on October 20, 25, 27 and November 3, 2005 (if needed), the Committee work on a draft report on family reunification;

2. That the Committee invite the Minister to appear on November 1, 2005, to speak on the Departmental Supplementary Estimates;

3. That on November 15 and 17, 2005, the Committee hear witnesses and commence clause-by-Clause of Bill C-283;

4. That on November 22, 2005, the Committee commence work on either a draft of the report on recognition of the international experience and credentials of immigrants or a new Citizenship Bill.

 

It was agreed, — That the report of the Subcommittee be concurred in.

 

Accordingly the stood motion was carried.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, October 27, 2004, the Committee resumed its study of Family Reunification Issues.
 

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
