The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, for the purpose of electing a Chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1).

 

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Hon. David A. Anderson, Roger Clavet, Meili Faille, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal, Art Hanger, Rahim Jaffer, Bill Siksay, Hon. Andrew Telegdi and Lui Temelkovski.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Analyst.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.
 

On motion of Lui Temelkovski, it was agreed, — That Andrew Telegdi be elected Chair of the Committee.

 
The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of Vice-Chairs.
 

On motion of Diane Ablonczy, it was agreed, — That Art Hanger be elected first Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

On motion of Bill Siksay, it was agreed, — That Meili Faille be elected second Vice-Chair of the Committee.

 

Andrew Telegdi took the Chair.

 

Lui Temelkovski moved, - That the decision taken by the Committee on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, with respect to the Committee’s upcoming meetings be rescinded and that the following schedule be adopted:

1. That on October 20, 25, 27 and November 3, 2005 (if needed), the Committee work on a draft report on family reunification;

2. That the Committee invite the Minister to appear on November 1, 2005, to speak on the Departmental Supplementary Estimates;

3. That on November 15 and 17, 2005, the Committee hear witnesses and commence clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-283;

4. That on November 22, 2005, the Committee commence work on either a draft report on the recognition of the international experience and credentials of immigrants or a new Citizenship Bill.

 

After debate, the motion was allowed to stand.

 

At 3:45 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
