The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Marlene Catterall, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Charlie Angus, Gord Brown, Hon. Sarmite Bulte, Marlene Catterall, Maka Kotto, Bev Oda, Gary Schellenberger and Mario Silva.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Don Boudria for David Smith, Johanne Deschamps for Marc Lemay and Anthony Rota for Scott Simms.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Joseph Jackson, Senior Analyst; Sam Banks, Analyst. As an Individual: David Black, Consultant.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 
Charlie Angus moved - That the Committee call upon Mr. Robert Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to appear before the Committee at its first full meeting to discuss the CBC Lock-out and the Corporation's use of the Parliamentary Appropriation that it received during the duration of the lock-out.
 

Don Boudria moved - That the motion be amended by adding after the word “lock-out” the following: “including the impact on minority language and isolated communities and that such a meeting be held following the end of the lock-out”.

 

Mario Silva moved, — That the question be postponed until the next meeting of the Committee.

 

The question was put on the motion and the results of the vote was announced: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 5.

Whereupon, the Chair voted in the affirmative.

Accordingly, the motion was agreed to.

 

At 9:35 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
