By unanimous consent, it was resolved, — That this Chamber encourage the government to do everything possible to ensure that the G8 and G20 meetings scheduled for April 2, 2009, in London, United Kingdom, address especially the core challenge of redressing among all member states the increased and enduring poverty and its social and economic effects on individuals and nations, recognizing that critical income security initiative and social infrastructure investment protects human dignity, the common good, equality of opportunity and economic prosperity; and that the Senate be invited to join with this Chamber in this encouragement.

Government Orders

The House resumed consideration at report stage of Bill C-2, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the States of the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland), the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Republic of Iceland, the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Kingdom of Norway and the Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Swiss Confederation, as reported by the Standing Committee on International Trade with an amendment;

And of Motion No. 1.

Mr. Julian (Burnaby—New Westminster), seconded by Mr. Stoffer (Sackville—Eastern Shore), moved Motion No. 1, — That Bill C-2 be amended by deleting Clause 33.

Private Members' Business

At 5:36 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

Ms. Faille (Vaudreuil-Soulanges), seconded by Mr. Desnoyers (Rivière-des-Mille-Îles), moved, — That, in the opinion of the House, the government should introduce in the House, no later than October 15, 2009, a bill to amend the Canada Labour Code to prohibit the use of replacement workers in labour disputes falling under the jurisdiction of the federal government while at the same time ensuring that essential services are maintained. (Private Members' Business M-294)

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 93(1), the Order was dropped to the bottom of the order of precedence on the Order Paper.

Adjournment Proceedings

At 6:36 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 38(1), the question “That this House do now adjourn” was deemed to have been proposed.

After debate, the question was deemed to have been adopted.

Accordingly, at 7:04 p.m., the Speaker adjourned the House until tomorrow at 10:00 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 24(1).
