Wednesday, April 30, 2003

The Standing Committee on Transport met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Joe Comuzzi, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Rex Barnes, John Cannis, Joe Comuzzi, Liza Frulla, Roger Gallaway, Ovid Jackson, Stan Keyes, Mario Laframboise, James Moore and Marcel Proulx.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: Hon. David Collenette, Minister of Transport.

Witnesses: From the Department of Transport: Louis Ranger, Deputy Minister of Transport, Transport Canada; William J.S. Elliott, Assistant Deputy Minister, Transport Canada, Safety and Security Group; Kristine Burr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Transport Canada, Policy Group; Ronald Sully, Assistant Deputy Minister, Transport Canada, Programs and Divestiture Group; André Morency, Assistant Deputy Minister, Transport Canada, Corporate Services; Jacques E. Pigeon, Senior General Counsel and Head, Department of Justice.

Pursuant to an Order of the House dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, consideration of the Estimates 2003-2004 - Votes 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60.

Hon. David Collenette made an opening statement and with the other witnesses, answered questions.

Roger Gallaway gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee, as part of its examination of the Estimates 2003-2004 request that CATSA appear to discuss that agency’s plans and priorities.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
