MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 3

Tuesday, May 6, 2003

The Subcommittee on Marine Transportation of the Standing Committee on Transport met at 3:39 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Roger Gallaway, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Joe Comuzzi, Bev Desjarlais, Roger Gallaway and Stan Keyes.

Other Members present: Paul Bonwick et Jim Gouk.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Shipowners Association: Don Morrison, President; Capt Réjean Lanteigne, Vice-President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of the St. Lawrence Seaway System and the Great Lakes Study.

Don Morrison made an opening statement and with Capt. Réjean Lanteigne, answered questions.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:40 p.m., the sitting resumed in Camera.

The Subcommittee proceeded to consider its future business.

It was agreed, -- That in relation to its study of the Great Lakes and the St-Laurence Seaway System, the Air tickets and hotel expenses incurred by David Sanders and Ginger Vuich of the consulting firm PRI, to join the Subcommittee in Chicago, be paid within the funds allocated to the Subcommittee for this study.

It was agreed, -- That the consideration of the motion regarding the Subcommittee’s trip to London, (UK) on Port Management and Security Matters be postponed till tomorrow, Wednesday, May 7, 2003. The said motion to be considered by the members of the Subcommittee and the Main Committee at the same meeting.

At 4:59 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
