The Subcommittee on Marine Transportation of the Standing Committee on Transport met at 3:49 p.m. this day, in Room 208, West Block, the Chair, Roger Gallaway, presiding.

Member(s) of the Sub-Committee present: Andy Burton, Joe Comuzzi, Roger Gallaway, Stan Keyes.

Acting Member(s) present: Roger Gaudet for Gérard Asselin.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  John Christopher, Principal Analyst.

Witness(es): From the Department of Transport: Christine Nymark, Associate Assitant Deputy Minister, Policy Group; Emile di Sanza, Acting Director General, Marine Policy, Policy Group; Gerard McDonald, Director General, Marine Safety, Safety and Security Group; Gerry Frappier, Director General, Security and Emergency Preparedness, Safety and Security Group.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) the Subcommittee was given a briefing Session in relation to its study of the St. Lawrence Seaway System and the Great Lakes.

Christine Nymark and Gerard McDonald made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:21 p.m., the Subcommittee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
