Meeting No. 21

Wednesday, April 9, 2003

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 4:04 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Claude Bachand, Leon Benoit, Bill Blaikie, Ivan Grose, Joe McGuire, Anita Neville, Janko Perić, David Pratt, Elsie Wayne.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Research Officer.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: Hon. John McCallum, Minister of National Defence.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Margaret Bloodworth, Deputy Minister; Vice Admiral Greg R. Maddison, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Wednesday, February 26, 2003, the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Main Estimates 2003-2004 - Votes 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 under National Defence.

The Minister made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
