MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 9

Thursday, December 12, 2002

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 11:26 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, John Cummins, Loyola Hearn, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel.

Acting Member present: André Harvey for Rodger Cuzner

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon and François Côté, research officers.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business.

It was agreed, - That the Committee discuss its intentions with regard to its study of the implications of extending Canada's Exclusive Economic Zone to include the Nose and Tail of the Grand Banks and the Flemish Cap at its meeting of January 30, 2003.

It was agreed, - That the Committee resume consideration of a draft report on Marine Communications and Traffic Services at its meeting of January 28, 2003.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee resumed its study on Marine Communications and Traffic Services (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, November 7, 2002, Meeting No. 2).

It was agreed, - That the Chair be empowered to write a letter to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans expressing the concern of the Committee about the state of funding for Marine Communications and Traffic Services.

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

At 12:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
