Thursday, May 8, 2003

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 12:59 p.m. this day, in Guild Hall, Holiday Inn Select Halifax Centre, Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Chair, Tom Wappel, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reed Elley, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: François Côté, research officer.

Witnesses: From the Dalhousie University: Dr. Ransom A. Myers, Chair of Ocean Studies, Department of Biology. From the Fishermen & Scientists Research Society: Patricia King, General Manager. From the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - Nova Scotia Chapter: Dr. Martin Willison, President. From Myles & Associates: Myles Kehoe. As an individual: Dr. Teresa MacNeil.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Atlantic Fisheries Issues (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 6, 2003, Meeting No. 32).

Dr. Ransom A. Myers made a statement and answered questions.

Patricia King and Dr. Martin Willison made statements and answered questions.

Myles Kehoe made a statement and answered questions.

Dr. Teresa MacNeil made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
