The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Vice-Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Scott Brison, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola, Richard Harris, Sophia Leung, The Hon. Maria Minna, Shawn Murphy, Pierre Paquette, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member present: The Hon. Lorne Nystrom for Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

In attendance From the Library of Parliament:  Marc-André Pigeon and Blayne Haggart, Analysts.

Witnesses: From Women Entrepreneurs of Canada: Ada Lee, President; Dr. Pirjo Friedman, Member, Board of Directors. From the Community Foundations of Canada: Monica Patten, President and Chief Executive Officer. From the Canadian Community Reinvestment Coalition: Duff Conacher, Chairperson. From the Canadian Labour Congress: Andrew Jackson, Senior Economist, Social & Economic Policy. From the HSBC Bank Canada: Martin Glynn, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the public interest implications of large bank mergers.

Ada Lee, Monica Patten, Andrew Jackson and Duff Conacher made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Martin Glynn made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:32 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
