Meeting No. 23

Thursday, November 7, 2002

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 1:05 p.m. this day, in Saskatoon at the Saskatoon Centennial Auditorium & Convention Centre in Regal A Room, the Vice-Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Casson, Nick Discepola and Shawn Murphy.

Acting Member present: Pat Martin for Lorne Nystrom.

Other Members present: Lynne Yelich and Rick Laliberté.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Acting Principal. From the Committees Directorate: Jeffrey Leblanc, Committee Clerk.

Witnesses: From the Chakastaypasin Band of the Cree Nation: Chief Sol Sanderson. From the Metis National Council: Gerald Morin, President; Lorna Dolken, Vice-President, Metis Nation / Saskatchewan. From the Northern Development Board: Barrie Bergsma, Business Consultant; Max Morin, Co-Chair. From the Northern Lights School Division: Tina Anderson, Chairperson of the Board of Education; Ralph Pilz, Director of Education. From the Northern Teacher Education Program: Bruce Ruelling, Chairman; Elie Fleury, Director. From the Saskatchewan Early Childhood Association: Sue Delanoy; Bev Drew.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

Chief Sol Sanderson, Gerald Morin, Tina Anderson, Max Morin, Barrie Bergsma, Bruce Ruelling, Elie Fleury, Sue Delanoy and Bev Drew made opening statements and answered questions.

At 2:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
