Meeting No. 22

Thursday, November 7, 2002

The Standing Committee on Finance met at 8:51 a.m. this day, in Saskatoon at the Saskatoon Centennial Auditorium & Convention Centre in the Regal A Room, the Vice-Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Rick Casson, Roy Cullen, Nick Discepola and Shawn Murphy.

Acting Member present: Pat Martin for Lorne Nystrom.

Other Member present: Lynne Yelich.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: June Dewetering, Acting Principal. From the Committees Directorate: Diane Deschamps, Committee Clerk.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Dehydrators Association and Canadian Hay Association: Warren Pridham, President; Dale Pulkinen, Executive Director. From the Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Marvin Shauf, 2nd Vice-President. From the Canadian Fertilizer Institute: Garth Moore, PCS President; Karen Rowbottom, Chair, CFI Working Group, Agrium. From the Saskatchewan Agrivision Corporation: C.M. Wiliams, President; Al Scholz, Executive Director. From the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce: Norm Halldorson, Chairperson, Finance Committee. From the University of Regina: Dr. Jim Tomkins, Vice-President (administration). From the Canadian School Boards Association: Gary Shaddock, President; Monique Bélanger, Director, Policy and Projects. From the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology: Dr. W.A. (Sam) Shaw, President; David Janzen, Vice-President, Finance and Administration. From the Saskatchewan School Trustees Association: John Nikolejsin, President; Craig Melvin, Executive Director. Pursuant to Standing Order 83.1, the Committee continued its pre-budget discussions.

Dale Pulkinen, Warren Pridham, Marvin Shauf, Garth Moore, Karen Rowbottom, Norm Halldorson, Jim Tomkins, C.M. Williams and Al Scholz made opening statements and answered questions.

At 10:32 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Gary Shaddock, W.A. (Sam) Shaw, John Nikolejsin, Craig Melvin, Frank Abdou, Peter McKinnon, John McConnell and Kebrom Haimanot made opening statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 12:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
