FAIT Committee Report

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), your Committtee has considered the issue of cases involving the detention of Canadian citizens in certain foreign countries and has agreed to report the following:

Conformément au mandat que lui confère le paragraphe 108(2) du Règlement, votre Comité a examiné la question des cas de citoyens canadiens détenus dans certains pays étrangers et a convenu de rapporter ce qui suit :

That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade call on the Government of Canada to initiate an independent public enquiry into the Maher Arar case, including the examination of the role that government departments and agencies played in his deportation by the United States and his subsequent incarceration in Syria.

Que le Comité permanent des affaires étrangères et du commerce international demande au gouvernement du Canada d’entreprendre une enquête publique indépendante sur l’affaire Maher Arar, y compris l'examen du rôle joué par les ministères et agences du gouvernement dans l’expulsion de M. Arar par les États-Unis et son incarcération subséquente en Syrie.
