Tuesday, February 18, 2003

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 1:25 p.m. this day, in, in Montreal, in Le Centre Sheraton, Salons ABC, the acting Chair, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Massimo Pacetti, Jerry Pickard.

In attendance:  From the Library of Parliament:  David Goetz, researcher officer.

Witnesses: From the "Table de concertation des organismes au service des personnes réfugiées et immigrantes": Rivka Augenfeld, President; Stephan Reichhold, Director. From the "Carrefour d'intégration des immigrants de l'Estrie": Louise Carrier-Corriveau, "conseillère en adaptation ", "Service d'aide aux néo-canadiens". From the "Ligue des droits et libertés": Me Denis Barrette, Legal Counsel. From the German Canadian Congress: Paul Walter, Member.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, November 8, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, November 21, 2002, Meeting No. 6).

Paul Walter made a statement and answered questions.

At 2:06 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 2:09 p.m. the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Canada's Settlement and Integration Programs (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, February 10, 2003, Meeting No. 20).

Stephan Reichhold made a statement and answered questions.

Louise Carrier-Corriveau made a statement and answered questions.

Rivka Augenfeld made a statement and answered questions.

At 3:16 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 3:34 p.m. the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the National Identity Card (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, February 6, 2003, Meeting No 17).

Denis Barrette made a statement and answered questions.

At 4:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
