Thursday, February 13, 2003

 

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 8:35 a.m. this day, in Regina at the Radisson Plaza Hotel Saskatchewan in the Regency Ballroom, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present:  Joe Fontana, David Price, Lynne Yelich.

 

Other Member present:  Andrew Telegdi.

 

In attendance:  From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:  Benjamin Dolin, Researcher.

 

WITNESSES:  From L. Cormode & Associates Research Services:  Dr. Liisa Cormode, President.  As individual:  Norm Wallace.  From the Eritrean Community of Saskatchewan:  Kebrom Haimanot, President.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, November 8, 2002, the Committee resumed debate on Clause 2, consideration of Bill C-18, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship (see Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, November 21, 2002, Meeting No. 6).

Dr. Liisa Cormode made a statement and answered questions.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Provincial/Territorial Nominee Programs (See Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, February 10, 2003, Meeting No. 18).

Dr. Liisa Cormode and Norm Wallace made statements and answered questions.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on a National Identity Card (see Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, February 6, 2003, Meeting No. 17).

Dr. Liisa Cormode and Norm Wallace commented on a National Identity Card.

At 10:42 a.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 10:55 a.m. the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on Settlement and Integration Programs (see Minutes of Proceedings, Monday, February 10, 2003, Meeting No. 20).

Kebrom Haimanot made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:40 a.m. Lynne Yelich took the chair, pursuant to a motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 5, 2002.

At 12:00 noon, the Committee adjourned until later this day.
