Thursday, February 6, 2003
The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 11:09 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joe Fontana, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Diane Ablonczy, Sarkis Assadourian, John Bryden, Yvon Charbonneau, Madeleine Dalphond-Guiral, Libby Davies, Antoine Dubé, Joe Fontana, Grant McNally, John O'Reilly, Massimo Pacetti, Jerry Pickard, David Price and Lynne Yelich.
Acting Member present: Joseph Volpe for Anita Neville.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Benjamin Dolin, Research Officer.
Appearing: From the House of Commons: The Hon. Denis Coderre, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration.
Witnesses: From the Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Michel Dorais, Deputy Minister; Alfred MacLeod, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Directions and Communications.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a study on a National Identity Card.
The Hon. Denis Coderre made an opening statement and answered questions.
On motion of John Reilly it was agreed, -- That notwithstanding the motion adopted by the Committee at its first meeting on November 5, 2002, that the reduced quorum to receive and publish evidence during the Committee’s travel be two Members, when quorum is not present.
At 12:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
