The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 209 West Block, the Chair, Paul Steckle, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Binet, Claude Duplain, John Maloney, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Gerry Ritz, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal.

 

Witnesses: Farm Credit Canada: John J. Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer; Janet Wightman, Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the BSE situation in Canada.
 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the Committee's travel to Washington, the group be composed of five government members and one member of each of the opposition parties.

 

On motion of John Maloney, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $39,063.26 for the Committee's travel to Washington, D.C., on October 19 to 21, 2003, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

On motion of Larry McCormick, it was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget of the Committee in the amount of $18,300.00 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

John J. Ryan made a statement and, with Janet Wightman, answered questions.

 

At 4:54 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
