Meeting No. 52

Tuesday, February 26, 2002

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 11:47 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Acting Chair, John Cannis, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Mario Laframboise, Alex Shepherd, Darrel Stinson, Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: Jim Pankiw for Val Meredith and Robert Bertrand for Marcel Proulx.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Canadians for Responsible and Safe Highways (CRASH): Bob Evans, Executive Director. As Individual: Dr. Alison M. Smiley, Consultant.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of Truckers Hours of Service, safety concerns and transborder/border crossing issues, and their impact on the Canadian trucking industry.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
