Meeting No. 30

Monday, November 5, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 7:01 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre block, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Gerry Byrne, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, James Moore, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd.

Acting Members present: Judy Sgro for Paul Szabo, Larry Bagnell for Joe Comuzzi, Stan Keyes for John Cannis

Other Member present: Joe Fontana

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Researcher.

Appearing: David Collenette, Minister of Transport

Witnesses: From the Transport Canada: Louis Ranger, Associate Deputy Minister, Valérie Dufour; Director General Air Policy, Jacques E. Pigeon, General Counsel.

The Order of Reference dated Wednesday, October 31, 2001, was read as follows:

ORDERED: - That Bill C-38, An Act to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations.

 

Minister Collenette made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 8:52 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

 

At 8:54 p.m. the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 

It was agreed: - That representatives of Air Canada and the Caisse de Depot et Placement du Québec be invited to appear before the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations in relation to Bill C-38, An Act to amend the Air Canada Public Participation Act.

At 9:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
