The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, John Bryden, John Finlay, Rahim Jaffer, Gilles-A. Perron, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Rob Merrifield for Philip Mayfield; Gurmant Grewal for Myron Thompson.
Associate Members present: Gurmant Grewal and Rob Merrifield.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Alan Gilmore, Principal; Ronald Campbell, Principal; Douglas Timmins, Assistant Auditor General. From Privy Council Office: George Redling, Assistant Secretary, Regulatory Affairs and Orders in Council; Hélène Quesnel, Principal Analyst, Regulatory Affairs and Orders in Council Secretariat. From the Department of Transport: Janet Milne, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Group; Gordon Chapman, Executive Director, Regulatory / Inspection Secretariat. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 24 (Federal Health and Safety Regulatory Programs) of the December 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

George Redling from Privy Council Office made a statement.
Janet Milne from the Department of Transport made a statement.
Diane Gorman from the Department of Health made a statement.
The witnesses answered questions.
