Thursday, October 4, 2001

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, Mac Harb, Pat Martin, Philip Mayfield, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; John Wiersema, Assistant Auditor General, Audit Operations Branch; Rona Shaffran, Director, Audit Operations. From the Privy Council Office: Ronald Bilodeau, Associate Secretary to the Cabinet and Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council. From the Treasury Board Secretariat: Ralph Heintzman, Assistant Secretary, Service and Innovation Sector; Helen Hardy, Director, Crown Corporation Policy and Information Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee proceeded to consider Chapter 18 (Governance of Crown Corporations) of the December 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

Sheila Fraser from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada made a statement.

Ronald Bilodeau from the Privy Council Office made a statement.

Ralph Heintzman from the Treasury Board Secretariat made a statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:24 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2001.
