Thursday, May 3, 2001

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:44 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, John Finlay, Shawn Murphy, Brian Pallister, Alex Shepherd and John Williams.

Acting Members present: Ovid Jackson for Mac Harb; Deborah Grey for Philip Mayfield.

Associate Members present: Deborah Grey.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal and Jean Dupuis, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Interim Auditor General of Canada; Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General; Kathryn Elliott, Principal, Audit Operations. From the Public Service Commission of Canada: Scott Serson, President; Amelita A. Armit, Vice-President, Staffing and Recruitment Programs Branch; Douglas Rimmer, Vice-President, Policy Research and Communications Branch; Michael Nelson, Vice-President, Corporate Management Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee resumed consideration of Chapter 21, (Post Secondary Recruitment Program of the Federal Public Service) of the December 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada and Chapter 9, (Streamlining the Human Resource Management Regime: A Study of Changing Roles and Responsibilities) of the April 2000 Report of the Auditor General of Canada. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Tuesday, May 1st, 2001, Meeting No. 12)

Sheila Fraser from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada made a statement.

Scott Serson from the Public Service Commission of Canada made a statement.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 5:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 8, 2001.
