The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Colleen Beaumier, Leon Benoit, Cheryl Gallant, John O'Reilly, Louis Plamondon, David Pratt, Carmen Provenzano, Peter Stoffer, Bryon Wilfert, Bob Wood.

Acting Member(s) present: Andy Savoy for David Price.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner; Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Witness(es): From the National Defence: Lt-Gen Christian Couture, Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources - Military; Terry Hearn, Director General, Military Human Resource Policy and Planning; Col Scott Cameron, Surgeon General. From the International Association of Fire Fighters: Sean P. McManus, Assistant to the General President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study on the state of readiness of the Canadian Forces.

Lt-Gen. Christian Couture made an opening statement, and with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
