Thursday, October 25, 2001

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Bev Desjarlais, Claude Drouin, Walt Lastewka, Charlie Penson, Paddy Torsney and Susan Whelan.

Acting Member present: Pat Martin for Bev Desjarlais.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Geoffrey P. Kieley and Lalita Acharya, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of University Teachers: Prof. Michael Piva, Member of the Executive Committee. From the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators: Wayne Marsh, President. From the Association of Canadian Community Colleges: Gerald Brown, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Three Federal Granting Agencies, Peer Review Funding, and the Canada Research Chairs Program (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 39).

Michael Piva, Wayne Marsh and Gerald Brown each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 10:25 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
