MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 72

Thursday, June 6, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Sarmite Bulte, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills, Chuck Strahl and Tony Tirabassi.

Associate Member present:  Peter MacKay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament:  Joseph Jackson, Terrence Thomas, research officers.

Witnesses: From the FWS Joint Sports Claimants Inc.: Gregory A. Piasetzki, Legal Counsel. From the National Football League: Jeff Pash, Executive Vice-President and General Counsel. From the National Hockey League: William L. Daly, Executive Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer; Douglas Perlman, Senior Vice-President, Television and Media Ventures.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, February 22, 2002, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-48, An Act to amend the Copyright Act (See Minutes of Proceedings, Wednesday, May 29, 2002, Meeting No. 68).

The Vice-Chair, Dennis Mills took the Chair.

The Committee resumed consideration of Clause 1.

William Daly and Jeff Pash made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:00 a.m., Clifford Lincoln took the Chair.

At 10:30 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
