MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 53

Tuesday, April 23, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:14 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present:  Rodger Cuzner, Christiane Gagnon, Loyola Hearn, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln and Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Member present: Bob Wood for Dennis Mills.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Cofman, intern; Joseph Jackson, Terrence Thomas, Research Officers.  Consultant:  David Black.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Conference of the Arts: Megan Williams, National Director; Marie Cadieux, Board Member. From the Communications and Diversity Network: Raj Rasalingam, President; Prof. Lionel Lumb, Member; Reuben Friedman, Member. From the Christian Communications Consultants: Patrick Bestall, President; Don Brooks, Secretary, Woodham Communications Inc.. From the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada : Bruce Clemenger, Director, Centre for Faith and Public Life. From the Canadian Race Relations Foundation: Karen Mock, Executive Director.  As Individual: Joe Clark. From the "Congrès Ibéroaméricain du Canada": Paul Fitzgerald, Vice-President & Legal Counsel.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.  (See Minutes of Proceeding, dated Thursday, November 8, 2001, Meeting No. 26).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 12:34 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
