The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, Betty Hinton, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Grant McNally, Dennis Mills and Tony Tirabassi.
Acting Member present: Benoit Sauvageau for Caroline St-Hilaire.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Joe Jackson and Terry Thomas, Research Officers, David Black, Consultant
Appearing: From the Department of Canadian Heritage: Sheila Copps, Minister of Canadian Heritage.
Witnesses: From the Department of Canadian Heritage: Michael Wernick, Assistant Deputy Minister, Cultural Development; Marc O'Sullivan, Director General, Broadcasting Policy and Innovation.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and its order of Tuesday, February 27, 2001, meeting No. 2, the Committee commenced the Study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.
The Minister made an opening statement and answered questions.
At 10:53 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
