[English]

The Clerk of the Committee: Honourable members, I see a quorum.

Your first item of business today is to elect a chair, and I'm ready to receive nominations to that effect.

Mr. Jim Abbott (Kootenay—Columbia, Canadian Alliance): I would like to nominate Clifford Lincoln.

The Clerk: Are there any further nominations?

Jim Abbott moved that Clifford Lincoln be elected chair of this committee.

(Motion agreed to)

The Clerk: I declare Mr. Lincoln duly elected chair of the committee and invite him to take the chair.

The Chair (Clifford Lincoln (Lac-Saint-Louis, Lib.)): Thank you very much.

I'd like to proceed to the election of the two vice-chairs. I seek nominations.

Mr. Tirabassi.

Mr. Tony Tirabassi (Niagara Centre, Lib.): I would nominate Mr. Denis Mills for vice-chair.

Mr. John Harvard (Charleswood St. James—Assiniboia, Lib.): I second that.

The Chair: Any other nominations? Let's take the vote on the first vice-chair.

(Motion agreed to)

The Chair: Congratulations, Mr. Mills.

Mr. Dennis Mills (Toronto—Danforth, Lib.): Thank you.

The Chair: I would seek nominations for the other vice-chair.

Mr. Bonwick.

Mr. Paul Bonwick (Simcoe—Grey, Lib.): It's a pleasure and an honour to nominate my esteemed colleague Mr. Abbott—the illustrious Mr. Abbott.

The Chair: So Mr. Jim Abbott has been nominated for vice-chair. Any other nominations? I call for a vote.

(Motion agreed to)

The Chair: Congratulations, Mr. Abbott.

Following the usual procedure of the committee when we discuss committee business, I'd like to have a motion that we move in camera for the business meeting. All in favour?

[Translation]

The plan was to meet in camera to consider routine business. Is everyone okay with that?

[English]

(Motion agreed to)

The Chair: So if you'll just give us a few minutes, we have to switch.

Is it in order to keep people from political staffs here, which we've usually done? I don't think anybody has any objection.

[Proceedings continue in camera]
