MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 1

Tuesday, February 20, 2001

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Christiane Gagnon, Cheryl Gallant, Gurmant Grewal, John Harvard, André Harvey, Loyola Hearn, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills.

Acting Members present: Jacques Saada for Paul Bonwick, John Finlay for Andrew Telegdi, Shawn Murphy for Bryon Wilfert, Robert Lanctôt for Caroline St-Hilaire.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of John Finlay, it was agreed, -That Clifford Lincoln do take the chair of the Committee as Chair.

Accordingly, Clifford Lincoln was declared duly elected Chair of the Committee and took the chair.

On motion of John Harvard, it was agreed, -That Dennis Mills be elected Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

Robert Lanctôt moved, -That Christiane Gagnon be elected Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was negatived on division.

Gurmant Grewal moved, -That Cheryl Gallant be elected Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to by a show of hands - YEAS: 12, NAYS: 3

At 9:25 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
