Meeting No. 75

Monday, May 6, 2002

The Standing Committee on Health met at 6:08 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, Brenda Chamberlain, Rob Merrifield, Judy Sgro, Yolande Thibeault, Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Member present: Odina Desrochers for Réal Ménard.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris and Monique Hébert, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Inuit Circumpolar Conference: Terry Fenge. From the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami of Canada: Stephanie Meakin. From the Environmental Defence Canada: Mary McGrath. From the New Tecumseth Environment Watch: Shauneen Mackay. From the "Groupe d'action pour les alternatives aux pesticides": Marie Archambault. As Individual: Jean-Dominique Lévesque-René. From the Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada: Dr. Av Singh, Extension Coordinator. From the Organic Landscape Alliance: Colette Boileau, Co-ordinator. From the Pesticide Free Ontario: Janet May. The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-53, An Act to protect human health and safety and the environment by regulating products used for the control of pests (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, April 16, 2002, Meeting No. 66).

Terry Fenge, Mary McGrath, Shauneen McKay and Marie Archambault made statements and, with Stephanie Meakin, answered questions.

At 7:31 p.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 7:52 p.m., the meeting resumed.

Dorothy Goldin Rosenberg, Peggy Land, Janet May, Colette Boileau, Av Singh and Jean-Dominique Lévesque-René made statements and answered questions.

At 9:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
