MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 35

Tuesday, December 11, 2001

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Andy Burton, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, Loyola Hearn, Dominic LeBlanc, Bill Matthews, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer, Suzanne Tremblay, Tom Wappel.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, research officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a meeting on problems facing Newfoundland schrimpers and related activities.

The Committee continued consideration of its draft report.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That, notwithstanding Standing Order 109, the Committee request the Government to table a comprehensive response to the Report within 90 days.

It was agreed, - That the Draft Report, as amended, of the Committee's study of the problems facing Newfoundland shrimpers and related activities pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), be adopted as the Committee's Sixth Report, and that the Chair present the said report to the House.

It was agreed,  - That, after returning from the Christmas adjournment, the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure deal with the issue of fisheries management on the Nose and Tail of the Grand Banks and on the Flemish Cap as new business for the Committee.

At 10:19 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
